Bulgaria 0-0 Suiza

Leaders England and Montengro received a huge boost in their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign as Bulgaria and Switzerland got the result they both did not want in Sofia.

A draw leaves the pair six points adrift at the halfway stage in Group G with Wales anchored at the foot of the table.

It will take a miracle for them to overturn the deficit and progress to next summer`s championships.

Switzerland almost clinched the points late on with a storming finish but it was not to be.

Gokhan Inler fired a shot over the bar in stoppage time then, with almost the last kick of the game, Mario Gavranovic saw his volley blocked by goalkeeper Nikolay Mihailov.

Bulgaria found themselves under the cosh in the last 10 minutes with Inler and Eren Derdiyok coming close to making the breakthrough.

Yet the home side had started brightly and Ivelin Popov almost put them ahead inside the first minute.

Then the Swiss were forced to make a change with Valon Behrami injured. He was replaced by Gelson Fernandes.

Bulgaria maintained the momentum and Blagoy Georgiev curled a shot wide before seeing a free-kick saved by Marco Wolfi.

But the Swiss picked up the pace of the game in the second half and Milhailov did well to tip over a header from Alexander Frei in the 63rd minute.
